Increase the Brightness of a Bike Headlight
Overview
The reason for dimming headlights is placing a bike under the sun due to which headlights of the bike get yellow and pale. It can also get dimmer when dust gets inside the lens. If instead of using Stanley, you use 15 rupees of a traditional bulb, it would also make the headlights dim. In old good times instead of using plastic ones, the original high-quality glass mirror was used in headlights.
Those mirrors stay very long and worked awesomely. Now for saving cost manufacturers don’t use those mirrors. However, these are steps by which you can increase the brightness of the headlights of the bike.
Steps to increase Brightness
1. Bulb – The Culprit
The real reason behind the poor illumination of the headlights is not the weak electric system which is the thinking of most people. The real reason is the bulb itself. Dual filament 35/35 tungsten Globe is the standard 2 wheeler bulb spec. Compared to the most modern flashlights, the dual filament 35/35 tungsten Globe produces dismal 600 lumens.
2. Doing it The Right Way
The poor 35W bulb looks more like a car H4 55w lamps if you’ll open the headlights of your bike. You can get a good 1100 Lumen output that would be about 80% increased by using a proper Halogen 55W car headlight bulb. However, the bulb was not a straight fit by using a plier to slightly bend the lower tabs can fit the bulb perfectly. You will get the proper alignment.
3. Wiring Holder and Wiring in Power Supply
You can increase the brightness of the headlights of the bike by simply buying or using an H4 holder and wiring it into the factory power supply as H4 and Scooter bulb bases are little different. There would be no problem or difficulty because both bulbs are 3 wire configurations. Before finalizing anything, you should make sure to check for proper High-Low Beam operations. If you are finding wiring difficult then use a multi-meter, it will help you out in wiring.
4. Bright Lights
There would not arise any problem by using this Activa with the mods even after a long time. Compared to other mods, fewer glares will be produced as the beam pattern with the 55w upgrade is the same. If you are worried about electric load then you should know that Activa alternator is designed and equipped with the following:
- Maximum load of 35w headlight
- 21w turn signal
- 21w brake /rear light
- 5w number plate light /meter light
- 10w horn
If you are not trying to use everything at once its capacity is easily sufficient.
Final Words
The dim lights of your bike can be dangerous as well as a little bit annoying. If the headlights of your bike are dim or aren’t bright enough then it would be a great compromise on your safety while travelling during the night time. It’s not difficult to change your headlights or make your lights brighter. By following the above steps, you can professionally do this job and increase the brightness of your bike headlight.
